I am a Button Badge Collector-If you collect button badges please join the club !-We do have button badge collectors in the B.C.C. but the majority of those in the B.C.C. collect metal and enamel of all sorts. If you are a button badge collector you will find our Newsletters useful as I always include up to date articles and snippets such as the one below from the general election a couple of years ago. I use coin leaves and folders to store my badges. For the larger button badges of 50mm upwards I make my own leaves using a heat sealer-that's how keen I am! I do limit my collection to British it was the only way to prevent my house collapsing!! I have many thousands to swap and sell if interested just email.

Old British Button Badges

Pre-War items are scarce and turn of the century badges made/issued in the UK are special--one I would love to get is Leicester Fosse--now Leicester City-this is my team and one of a number that are out there but very hard to find !

WAR WE SAY NO!

Note the ‘VPLAC' designshown below in the Universal Button Company catalogue is the same shape as the ‘War We Say No!' design

WAR WE SAY NO!

This enamelled badge states ‘War we say no!'

It is clearly from the late 1930s but who issued it?

The evidence we have is the backstamp ‘Universal Button London ' Universal were primarily a button badge producer and laminater and it is quite possible their enamel badges were produced elsewhere. The page illustrated from their 1936 catalogue clearly shows the shape of the ‘War we say no!' badge in the guise of ‘ VPLAC' (see the top left of the page illustrated –entitled ‘enamelled metal badges' -badge numbered 801 ‘enamelled two colours, three dozen 66/--repeats 9/- per dozen')

Who then, paid the 66/- per first three dozen to have this anti-war design made up?

2001 General Election 'quiet ' on Badge front

The election had such a disappointing turn out voter wise and this is mirrored with the number of badges to be found. The only real public interest would appear to have been when the famous Prescott punch was thrown-How ironic then that a badge was produced BEFORE any punches were thrown as part of the Labour party's 'Get Ready Show'-the irony being that it really does look as if he is ready for a fight !!!!!!!!!!!!!!The badge in my opinion is therefore an absolute classic! As well as the 'Save the Pound' badge shown in the last NL this rather unusual 'Save the Ton' design has appeared-although I don't know who has issued it

Queries--Many badges offer mysteries to solve-they are from long lost clubs or organisations. The Badge Collectors Circle is always looking to solve such queries and mysteries. Many actually see this side of the hobby as part of the fun of it! There is a query section on this site and here is a good example -from the early 1960s-what on earth is/was MANDERLEY all about ?--This WAS a BCC query for over ten years but was solved in 2009 when we were emailed with the following ::

MANDERLEY –SOLVED AT LAST!!

Long standing query Manderley has been solved thanks to our website.

Gill Forsyth –emailed--

hi you have pictures of Mandeley badges , which were from a holiday place in Maenporth, Cornwall , where the kids had to collect things to get the badges.  This was in the 1960,s,  it was a special place with chalets and an old big house.  The owner used to entertain the kids with treasure hunts, messages in bottles, drives in his car, dance competitions and even a cinema for the children. Yes I did stay there as a child we went there as a family for many years,  and I did have some of the badges,  but I have not got them any more.  I had the glass one, the penny and the wild flowers one,  I believe my brothers collected more.  I have been looking for the old house that use to be part of the holiday place but I can not find it,  my dad  remembers it was in Maenporth area.  While googling I remembered the badges  and thats how I found your site. By chance, has anyone provided you with the address or full name for this holiday site, if so, could you kindly pass it on to me.
